Jasmine has a background in performance design and making with her training beginning at the University of the Arts London. During her career so far she has worked in collaboration with a variety of artists, makers, designers, producers and creative professionals from devised pieces for contemporary dance to realised site-specific and immersive performances.
With love and interest in immersive and site-specific art, Jasmine created a speculative design, direction and production concept based at ‘The Ditch’ Shoreditch Town Hall in 2019 alongside designer and art director Hazel Owen. Together they explored the stories of Jane Eyre and Wide Sargasso Sea discovering the trials and tribulations of the novelist who wrote the famous literature. Jasmine’s older sister Amber Kuti music went on to perform at Shoreditch Town Hall in 2022 singing and touring with Jazz Fm Award 2022 Winner Mica Miller.
In 2020, Jasmine was one of the eight hand-selected multidisciplinary artists who took part in Arthouse Jersey’s virtual retreat run by visual artist Sue Hill (Associate Director of Wildworks and former Artistic Director of the Eden Project) and Francesca Duncan (Punchdrunk) in which she was part of an experimental week of testing the digital limitations of virtual collaboration with International Artists. During this week she worked on various creative collaborations, some of which involved creating collaborative performances with theatre makers and artists based in the UK, London, and destinations as far as Lagos, Nigeria and Athens, Greece.
In 2021 Jasmine worked as set designer, costume designer and maker for a performance based at London Contemporary Dance School (The Place). A three month project in collaboration with choreographer Guillaume Lolliot founder of Ahhhh Collectif and dancers Jason Yip, Jenna Boyd, Will Metcalfe, Anmol Kaur who features in Woman and performed with Mercury Prize 2022 winner Little Simz at the BRIT awards & Aishani Ghosh who performed with Mercury Prize shortlisted Joy Crookes and features in Feet Don’t Fail Me Now)
From contemporary dance to site-specific art, in 2022 she collaborated with director/designer and installation artist Geraldine Pilgrim with MA site-specific Mountview Drama creatives working in the former womens Holloway Prison working as creative assistant and artist in the process of putting on performance based on the story of Ruth Ellis (the last woman to be executed there). Working during the pandemic and cold months of October and November in the empty prison, the creative team worked in the space alongside ITV and BBC in the process of putting on the show.
